Shin Bet: Terror Down in April

ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) records a dramatic drop in terror-related incidents in April compared to the previous month: 56 attacks, compared with 125 in March. Lowest number of attacks since the beginning of the year in the Judea and Samaria region

During April 2010, the number of terror-attacks in Israel dropped drastically compared to the previous month: 56 attacks, compared with 125 in March – according to an Israel Security Agency (ISA) report published on Tuesday (Mar. 4).  Moreover, the number of terror attacks returned to a level comparable to the level it was in February, 53 attacks.

The decrease in the number of attacks is particularly evident in the Jerusalem area (6 attacks, compared to 27 in March) and the Judea and Samaria region (25 attacks, compared with 62 in March). In the Gaza Strip, the decline was more moderate: 25 attacks, compared with 36 in March. However, the report indicates an increase in mortar fire attacks this month – 10 attacks, during which 18 mortar shells were launched, compared to 5 attacks, during which 6 mortar shells were launched, in March.

To be noted, the Judea and Samaria region showed a record low in the number of attacks since the beginning of the year: 25 attacks, compared with 62 attacks in March, and 37 attacks both in January and February.

Parallel to the decrease in the number of terror-related attacks, there has been a decline in the number of casualties from terror attacks. During the month of April, one Israeli civilian was injured as a result of hurled stones/objects in the Samaria region, compared to March when 3 were killed and 4 wounded.
