Olmert Facing a Fourth Indictment

It appears that if former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will be facing a criminal indictment in the Holyland investigation, it will have to wait. The former prime minister is first going to face a fourth indictment, this one addressing political abduction for alleged political appointments.

These charges stem from the 2006 State Comptroller’s report, citing Olmert illegal appointments. He has been summoned to a pretrial hearing, providing his legal team an opportunity to defend him. The outcome of the hearing will determine if the state moves forward with a fourth criminal indictment against him. Former Cabinet Secretary Oved Yechezkel is also linked to the case and he too may be indicted in the case. Olmert however released a statement that the entire matter was being blown out of proportion, insisting he did not break the law.

The former prime minister already faces charges in the “Talansky Cash Envelopes’ case, the “Rishon Tours” case and the “Investment Center” case. There is speculation an indictment will follow in the Holyland case and there are some already hinting on a probe surrounding Olmert’s approval of the controversial Jerusalem light rail.

  1. This is news?

News is what is new and unusual. For example, “Olmert does Tseuvah” would be news, or, “Olmert found to be honest and incorruptable” would be unusual (verging on fantasy).
