Deputy Minister of Education (Yahadut HaTorah) R’ Meir Porush met with former President of the High Court of Justice Prof. Aaron Barak to discuss the Emanuel Beis Yaakov case. According to a Kikar Shabbat report, during recent days, Porush also met with Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin.
These meetings came in addition with the deputy minister’s meeting with High Court of Justice President Dorit Beinish, all towards lowering the antagonism surrounding the case. Both Barak and Rivlin reportedly stated they will probe the matter and do their utmost to assist.
In an interview on Kol Chai Radio on Thursday night, Porush explained that the court accepted the contention of the parents, that the separation is due to religious differences, not at all the result of racism or discrimination. He added that differences of opinion are legitimate, as is the desire of parents to educate their children as they see fit.
When asked to explain the court’s decision based on the agreement reached by the parties involved, he stated the students will all be returning to school, as things were before the conflict. He stressed however that the court wants to know if each and every student adheres to the rules and regulations of the school, on both sides, Ashkenazim and Sephardim alike. The school has been instructed to submit a copy of the charter to the court.
