iPad Importation Ban Lifted on Motzei Shabbos

Minister of Communications Moshe Kahlon removed the ban on the importation of iPad computers. The announcement was made on motzei shabbos, with Kahlon ordering customs officials to release the computers that are being held at present.

YWN-Israel reported that the computers were banned, reportedly due to their possibility interfering with the current connectivity system in the country. Persons arriving with the computer were somewhat surprised to learn their computers were being confiscated and that they would have to pay NIS 50 a day for storage.

The lifting of the ban is only for the personal importation of the computer, one computer per person, not for commercial importation of the computer.

There is no mention made of the lifting of the daily NIS 50 storage fee which it appears many people will have to pay to get their computers out of customs lock up.
