Israel on Sunday night and Monday will remember 22,682 members of security agencies who fell in the line of duty, making the ultimate sacrifice towards protecting Israel and its residents. An additional 111 persons were added to the list since last Memorial Day, including IDF soldiers and members of Israel Police and other security agencies.

In addition, bereaved families will mourn their loved ones, victims of Arab terrorism, those who perished in terrorist attacks over the years.

A one-minute siren will be heard around Israel on Sunday night marking the beginning of Memorial Day ceremonies and the main government ceremony at the Kosel, in the presence of President Shimon Peres and IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gabi Ashkenazi. On Tuesday morning, a two-minute siren will be sounded at 11:00am, marking the start of memorial services in military cemeteries around Israel.

Two hours later, the main state ceremony for victims of terror attacks will take place in the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery in Yerushalayim. At 4:30pm, at Jerusalem’s Ammunition Hill, a memorial event for bereaved parents will take place in the presence of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.

  1. May there be no more yidden whi have to “fall” in battle or any other circumstance.

May Moshiach be here already, we have waited far too long.

  2. As has been discussed here previously, this number represents all soldiers and victims of terror for the last 150 years. While every lost neshama is painful, this is a very small number compared to other times and places in our history. Those who say the Medina causes more loss of life than without it, are simply not being truthful.

  3. As soon as the siren went off I wanted to say some Tehillim, so I looked up Tehillim online (I don’t know them by heart), and I chose a random kapitel – and the one that came out was פרק מט
    לַמְנַצֵּחַ לִבְנֵי קרַח מִזְמוֹר. שִׁמְעו זאת כָּל הָעַמִּים הַאֲזִינוּ כָּל ישְׁבֵי חָלֶד
the one that you say for niftorim at a Beis Ovel.

  4. Indeed kedoshim and tehorim who showed the ultimate mesirat nefesh for our people.

I would humbly suggest that all readers learn and daven today leilu nishmatam so we can show hakarat hatov for their sacrifice
