Following the recent arrest of another talmid affiliated with the so-called Peleg Yerushalmi, followers of HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Auerbach Shlita are heading to the streets to protest. The last time, the protests, which took place in many cities around Israel, turned violent and were condemned by the Degel Hatorah branch of the chareidi litvish community.
The talmid was arrested in his Ofakim home on Purim and taken by military police for failing to register for the draft as the law requires. Followers of Rav Auerbach do not register while followers of Gedolei Bnei Brak Shlita do. The talmid was brought before the Jaffa Military Court on Tuesday 16 Adar, at which time his remand was extended for two additional days. Another hearing is set for Thursday, 18 Adar.
Rabbonim have conferred with Rav Auerbach following the arrest and are instructed to continue protests against the military’s policies and they are to be noisy and heard around the country.
The current threat includes protesting on Friday and disrupting the Jerusalem Marathon this Friday, 19 Adar, which reportedly has over 30,000 registered runners from Israel and around the world planning to participate.
