A 27-year-old Israeli driver is being held responsible for a fatal crash in New Zealand, apparently because she was driving on the wrong side of the road, possibly temporarily unaware of the right-sided steering wheel realities of New Zealand. According to a Yediot Achronot report, two British tourists, in their 60s and 70s were killed as a result of the crash.
The Ariel resident was driving in the city of Mossburn when she moved into the other lane, possibly forgetting the different driving realities of the area, leading to the head-on collision. The woman and an occupant of the vehicle sustained light injuries.
New Zealand authorities report she was released on bail but will be arraigned on Monday and they plan to charge her with vehicular manslaughter. If convicted, she could be facing a jail sentence.
