Dozens of youths, at times labeled ‘at-risk’, or ‘shabavnikim’ took to the streets of Reches Shuafat (Ramat Shlomo) on Birchas Avraham Street on shabbos, damaging shopping carts from the Yesh supermarket branch and causing other property damage.
According to neighbors quoted anonymously in the daily HaMevaser, they threw shopping carts and “anything they could get their hands on” from the bridge down below, on the street during the predawn hours, indiscriminately destroying property.
HaRav Dovid Greenwald, of Hatzolah Israel is quoted by the newspaper as calling for the establishment of a patrol to address the problem, citing the extensive property damage that resulted from this Friday night’s events. He states that this is not an isolated incident, explaining askanim have met with police numerous times, but nothing seems to have been done.
Regarding the incident reported earlier, the Ramat Shlomo stabbing attack, HaMevaser adds the MDA ambulance response was delayed, arriving only after about 20 minutes. The ambulance first responded to an address on a street with a similar sounding name.

A patrol will not “address the problem”; at best it will catch some of those destroying others proiperty. The problem is one of chinuch which needs a lot more than “a partol”.
