Avreich Stabbed in his Jerusalem Home on Shabbos

Rav Nachman Yonah Leib [ben Raizel Shoshana) was seated at the shabbos table with his family on Friday night in Jerusalem’s Ramat Shlomo neighborhood when he noticed a significant amount of water on the balcony. He assumed a pipe had burst, perhaps in his neighbor’s home upstairs, prompting him to go upstairs to inform his neighbor of the situation. When the door opened upstairs, R’ Nachman was greeted with a punch to his face, knocking him down, followed by an attack with a knife. He was stabbed three times in his abdominal area.

The family heard screams and ran upstairs, horrified to find R’ Nachman on the ground, bleeding from his wounds. Emergency officials were summoned and Ichud Hatzalah was first on the scene, with first-responders working to stabilize his condition. He was transported to the trauma unit of Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital and following a number of surgical procedures, he is listed in moderate-to-serious condition.

Version 2: The neighbor and assailant, described as a “baal tshuva”, came downstairs requesting that the family sing zmiros in a lower tone, explaining they were disturbing him. An argument resulted and the neighbor stabbed R’ Nachman.

The attacker was lightly injured and he was transported in custody to Shaare Zedek Medical Center. He explained to police that his downstairs neighbor was disturbing his shabbos and that prompted him to direct a water hose onto his balcony.

  1. While noisy shabbos neighbors can be quite annoying and frustrating, such a response seems more than slightly exaggerated…

There must be more to this. Had there been a history of problems between them? Does anyone know more?

  2. wow what a shocking story

ywn please follow up on this story 1)what version is found to be correct 2)was the attacker taken in by the police and other details.thanks

  3. I will definitely daven for him, but Mr. Spira, please, if you don’t know the story, why write it at all?
Here’s another story: I heard that it could be that maybe it’s possible that a yungerman was stabbed while going to daven this morning OR version 2: When a yungerman was waiting in line at the bank after davening he went outside to put a quarter in the meter and a delivery boy ran into him with his bike. Please be mispalel for . . .

  4. Hey Yechiel, Why must you point out that it was a “baal tshuva” who allegedly committed this crime. Is a “baal tshuva” beneath your level of judaism? This website consistently points out the “baal tshuva”. All of you make me sick!!!!!!!

  5. Speaking from experience as a Baal Teshuvah;
I can say that I have come accross many like this stabber.
They pretend to be G-d fearing but in fact are not, it’s just a disguise for them.

They pretend to be frum, but in fact are just liberals (see my post under the article about Gov Christie and the Teachers Union’s, prayer for his death).

But it’s not just limited to ‘Baalei Teshuvah’ I have seen similar actions and attitudes from
some who were “born frum”, as well.

When it happens it is usually by those who are bigger and stronger then most of those around them.
Not everyone is like that, but those who are, usually express an attitude that “might makes right” and if they are bigger then you, they can do what they want and you had better accept however they decide to treat you.

They are nothing but cowardly bullies who would never start up with someone they ‘knew’ could
    easily beat them.

In any case, in my opinion, no one can do these things and expect to be considered “religious” unless the religion in question, is liberalism.

It certainly is not Judaism and has nothing to do with following G-d or Torah.

  6. Well my post that I refeered to was deleted, I guess facts (with links) about what liberalism is doing to this country, are not allowed.

  7. #7,
Your learning shows a serious deficiency. Have you ever heard of Avahas Yisroael?
I am a prouid, torah observant liberal who freely admits to voting for President Obama and supporting his health care bill. This does not mean that I hate you for your extreme conservative views. In fact, I find the fact that your are a dedicated Ba’al Tseshuva much more significant.
