Jerusalem officials are reported a record 30,000 runners have registered for the event, which takes place on erev Shabbos 19 Adar 5777, offering a number of options.
The Seventh International Jerusalem Marathon offers a full marathon (42.2 km), half-marathon (21.1 km), 10 km race, competitive 5 km race, popular 5 km race,
family 1.7km race and an 800 m community race.
Organizers boast the event attracts some of the most elite runners who compete internationally.
The media release adds “The International Jerusalem Winner Marathon combines physical endurance with exquisite landscapes, fresh mountain air and unique culture and heritage sites such as the Israeli Knesset, Machane Yehuda Marketplace, Mount Scopus, the Old City, David’s Tower, Haas Promenade and more.
It is guaranteed to be a challenging, thrilling and unforgettable experience for all runners.”
Upcoming Marathons
The scheduled dates for the next four annual marathons are as follows:
Eighth International Jerusalem Marathon – March 9th, 2018
Ninth International Jerusalem Marathon – March 15th, 2019
Tenth International Jerusalem Marathon – March 13th, 2020
The event will cause a major traffic challenge around the city, especially on erev Shabbos. As always vendors and shopkeepers in Machane Yehuda and the surrounding area are less than pleased as access to the area is limited on the busiest day of the week.

Nebech! Trying to be like goyim and even overpass goyim in some cases and foolishly believe that the goyim will like them more. How dumb! Haven’t they learned from history that the more they mimic non-Jews, the more the non-Jews hate them. When will they wake up?
Another event that is of critical importance for the chareidi Yeshiva World to know about. Keep up the relevant news reporting!!
When you have a large event that would require streets to be closed especially erev Shabbos, people who live in the area do need to know.
If there was a R’L “Parade” down Jaffa Street passing Machane Yehuda towards the old city on a Friday afternoon basically shutting down Jaffa Street, people need to know in order to avoid it
To Aryelah:
Again, you demonstrate your parochial view of the world and perspective gained by looking at he world from the bottom of a dark cave. There is nothing you can bring down from chazal that suggests a marathon is contrary to yiddeshkeit. Indeed, it would be neis m’shamayim if more of our boys and girls were encouraged to find ways to pursue healthy physical activity within the confines of tzinius. There are multiple studies showing that students in good physical shape are better able to focus on their studies, have longer attention span and overall better cognitive skills. There is time in life for a balance of time spent in limud torah as well as in maintaining one’s physical well being.
To #4 Gadol: now, I finally understand why the Torah learning in the U.S.A. is so much more intense than in Eretz Yisrael…
And of course, Chazal would have approved of a marathon of
men/boys and women/girls running together for several hours. Especially since the women will all be modestly clad for the run.
