MK (Yahadut Hatorah) Uri Maklev is working to persuade Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon not to approve a taxi fare increase.
Maklev sent a letter to Kahlon asking him to reconsider as an increase he fears will negatively impact those who use taxis.
The ministry is about to approve a four percent increase, which has already been approved by the Ministry of Transportation.
It is pointed out that taxi fares were reduced a few months ago following a machlokes between committee which regulates fares, the Transportation Minister and drivers.
Maklev points out that taxi fares have increased a total of 60% over the past decade. He is calling on Kahlon to block yet another increase, explaining he should not permit the pressure of a group of lobbyists to result in yet another increase.

Really doesn’t MK Maklev feel there are more important issues for the Haredi community to battle the Finance Minister over? If the proposed increase was to public transport fares I would support him but surely anyone who can afford a taxi can afford 4% more! On an average NIS35 journey that is less than a shekel and a half extra or about $0.38.
