A chareidi couple was concerned, not exactly sure where the money was going to come from to pay their electric bill. “I davened to pay the bill” explains the husband, who adds he bought a lottery ticket for the third time in his life hoping this time, he would win.
And win he did, earning a cool 12.5 million shekels, more than enough to cover his electric bill for quite a few years.
The Jerusalem couple, in their 40s and the parents of six children, arrived at the Lottery Authority on Sunday, 23 Shevat with their winning ticket in hand. They explained that they have the winning numbers from the motzei Shabbos lottery. They were still unaware as to how much they won, telling the clerk they hope it will be sufficient to pay off their electric bill of NIS 4,000. They used the heat quite a bit during the winter’s cold days in the hope the children would not become ill. They admit they were at the end, without ideas how to pay the bill – simply davening to HKBH to assist.
The couple purchased an NIS 11.60 ticket. “It is the third time ever that I purchased a ticket and when we saw the winning numbers on motzei Shabbos, we could not believe it and we grabbed a Tehillim to thank HKBH. We could not fall asleep after this. It was the biggest gift we ever received”.
When asked what they are going to do with the winnings, they explained “First of all we will pay the electric bill. We have a dream of traveling to Rav Nachman and now we can begin planning such a trip for the entire family. Regarding the remainder, we will continue living a modest life as we did before. Baruch Hashem we have an apartment and six children and we are going to assist talmidei chachamim.

BH I hope they are zoche to do lots of mitzvos and chesed!
You may say Shekolim.
MaZal tov!! Simchas by alimen 🙂
a) I hope that they won’t be hounded out of Israel by long lines of people wanting to ask them for money. I heard a story where that happened.
b) I wish them only Nachas from the win. They would be wise to get life advice. Studies have shown that some 70-80% of big lottery winners cannot handle the sudden wealth and all that it brings and after two years are much worse off than if they had not won. May Hashem grant them only Nachas.
Aryehshoag,
This article is in English, it is therefore correct to say Shekels.
Beautiful present from Hashem.
Use it well, bsimcha & with sechel.
Seriously? That’s the derech hatevah that they pursued? To pay bills? How about education, job, and all of those things?
and even better is that they won’t have to pay a penny in taxes either
If you can’t pay for electricity to provide heat and light for your family, who gave you a heter to buy lottery tickets? Rebi Nachman?
Avreimi, how low can you go? Just so simple to be happy for another person. Try it!
