Livni Refuses to Sign Petition to Build in Yerushalayim

Criticism aside, one must commend opposition leader Tzipi Livni for her honesty, her refusal to sign alongside other MKs calling for continued construction in Yerushalayim. Her left-wing policies may not find favor in the eyes of some, but she is open and above board, a champion supporter of more concessions to the PA (Palestinian Authority), a Palestinian state and Israeli land withdrawals towards fulfilling her vision of living side-by-side with Israel’s Arab neighbors.

In response to America’s hard-hand position against Israel over the past two weeks, Kadima MK Otniel Schneller initiated the letter/petition, an effort to show the American administration that the Israeli people support continued construction in Jerusalem, even those areas liberated in the Six Day War of 1967.

MKs from most of the parties joined in the effort, excluding the Arab parties and the radical left-wing Meretz Party. Most of Kadima, including party leader Livni refused to sign.

Seeking to enlist as many signatories as possible, Schneller submitted a draft to Defense Minister Ehud Barak and the Prime Minister’s Office, hoping to enlist the cabinet ministers as well. At the end of the day on Thursday, Schneller received the support of all cabinet ministers, 30, and 47 MKs.

  1. just for the record, livni’s own standing in kadimah is at its lowest since she took power. only 30% of kadimah (Kadimah!) voters want her as the leader.

  2. Yes that is truly refreshing to “know your enemy”. Livni, at least is not, “echad b’peh v’echad b’lev”. Now Obama, Emanuel & Axelrod will tell you anything you want to hear and then follow their agenda

  3. “one must commend opposition leader Tzipi Livni for her honesty”
Mr. Spira: You GOTTA be kidding!!!
Honesty is great but this is going too far!
We should COMMEND her for all her anti-Torah, anti-Eretz Yisrael, pro-arab hashkafas because she is HONEST about them?!?
Well, I guess it IS one step above Sharon, who got elected as a right-wing hawk, and then proceeded to give away Gush Katif.
I guess by the same token we should “commend” Achmanijad (or whatever his name is!) of Iran, for “honestly” telling us he wants to destroy us.

  4. I happen to think Livni is absolutely right. We cannot, may not, should not build anywhere in ‘East’ Jerusalem, including Ramot, Ramat Shlomo, Gilo, Talpiot Mizrach, Neveh Yaakov, Pisgat Zeev. Nor in any other place beyond the Green Line.

Further, regarding Livni being honest, I recall a joke I once read about this issue:

Q: How can you tell an Israeli / Palestinian politician is lying?
    A: His lips move.

  5. DB I hope you are joking. I don’t know all the legal ramifications of everything so if its illegal thats another story..

but… just because the arabs riot and are violent and america ad the un keeps us from acting back appropriately doesn’t mean the jews can’t do anything.

do you know how many frum communities there are in ramot and neve yaakov?
