The Knesset on Wednesday voted a bill into law that permits levying additional taxes on treif meat. The bill was authored by MK (Yahadut HaTorah) MK R’ Moshe Gafne, who is obviously aware the law banned importing treif but the added fines he hopes will bring about changes, since in reality, non-kosher meats are imported.
The bill addresses many treif animals including whales, horses, seals and donkeys. The bill passed into law in a 25-16 vote.
In short, there is an international agreement setting taxes for a list of items. In Israel’s case, a law prohibiting importing treif rendered the listing of non-kosher items in the tax listing as irrelevant, but problems arose when Gafne asked to have the items removed from the list since they are illegal anyway. When he was met with opposition, with an explanation that international agreements do not permit removing the items, he dropped the request since the law prohibits the import of such items in any event.
Unfortunately, there is a community such a Kibbutz Mizra, which supports itself by raising pigs and delivering a line of pork products to the Israeli marketplace r”l.

Should Goyim in Israel also have to be fined for buying treif meat?
i am very pleased with this bill. i am very ashamed of anyone that would want to have traif meats in israel in the first place. EXCUSE ME PACHADYITZCHAKFAN, GOYIM HAVE THE ENTIRE FACE OF THIS EXTREMELY LARGE PLANET TO HAVE THEIR TREIF MEATS. SHAME ON YOUR MIND.

this is so stupid. whats the point of this stupid law if its not gonna get enforced? and no, its not. is their not a law that certain businesses must close on shabbos? not enforced. and what about the law about selling chometz? not enforced.
thinking up new laws and getting them passed seems to me the only way that mk’s can ‘prove’ to the mindless people that voted them in that they are worthwhile. but cmo’n how stupid are people these days?

Actually this planet is very much on the small side.
In fact every planet so far found outside our own solar system, is at least several times larger then ours.
Having said that, the fact remains that Israel is a microbe in size, compared to the rest of the world that the non Jews have for themselves.
great, let the Russians and Goyim help support our country. I hope that tax is high to give impetus to those Russian Jews (and there are many of them) to stop preferring treif over kosher.
