According to a report released by Adam Teva V’Din (Israel Union for Environmental Defense), 500,000 Israelis are not connected to the nation’s sewage system, an alarming reality that results in the polluting of no less than 800 kilometers (480 miles) of national streams. The Israel Water Authority denies the accuracy of the NGO report.
In its annual report, the environmental watchdog organization issues a scathing censure regarding the water authority, the national sewage network and the alarming rate in which our natural resources are being polluted. The report centers around 150 communities which are not yet connected to the national sewage system. The waste products from these communities travel to cesspools and eventually dumped sucked out by pumper trucks and dumped elsewhere, compounding the environmental damage.
Most of the communities listed are in the Arab sector, but some yishuvim are on the list as well, as is the capital of the Shomron, the city of Ariel.
