IDF officials report that 2010 has brought with it a sharp increase in the number of foreign nationals attempting to infiltrate into Israel from Sinai. During January and February of 2010, officials report 2,500 infiltrators crossed the border illegally as compared to 4,500 in all of 2009.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has recently announced he plans to construct a high-tech border fence between Israel and Egypt to prevent the increasing trend, which he views as a major contributory factor to the growing number of illegals taking legitimate jobs from Israelis.
