MDA Spokesman Mandela Detained For Impersonating Police Officer

MDA spokesman Yerucham Mandela, who holds a rank equivalent to an IDF brigadier-general, was taken into custody and released on erev shabbos. It appears he will be facing charges for operating his vehicle irresponsibly and impersonating a policeman.

According to police, a senior officer who was traveling on Highway 6 on Friday saw a vehicle with a flashing light on its roof and operating an audible siren pass while “driving erratically”. The officer checked with police dispatchers and determined there were no area emergencies that could justify the vehicle’s speed and operating an emergency light and siren.

The officer pulled over Mandela, who had a forged police ID in his possession. He was detained for questioning and released. MDA official Zaki Heller released a statement that the organization will act appropriately after learning the details of the event.

  1. Why would an equivalent to a brigadier general have to resort to impersonating a police officer. Can’t he just use his own credentials to get people to listen to him?

  2. what a disgrace. i wonder how often that cop pulls over drivers that drive like that WHERE NO AFFRONT TO HIS GAIVAH is involved. the police in ey are experts at announcing how many outstanding violations a driver involved in a fatal accident had- but do they think for even a minute that its their fault that he was allowed to accumulate so many??? ANYONE who drives in ey knows that all types of moving violations happen routinely UNDER THE COPS NOSES all over ey, highways , in the city and the regular cops and most of the time the traffic cops turn the other way. passing on the right, not signaling, broken headlights all can cause accidents not just drinking or speeding.but the cops dont care about such voilations. not to mention all the hefkeirus on the streets every purim. yes, i am upset. but i still love ey and spend six months a year there.

  3. #3 – you’re completely right. If one thing extremely bothers me, it’s Israeli cops’ laziness. I see traffic violations of the type you mention all around me every day, and the police simply don’t care. Police cars everywhere, but they just DO NOT CARE.

  4. thanks daniel. and to number 4, the purim hefkeirus i was referring to is the way people sit outside on the car windows and ‘ride’ the roof of the car etc. they are all moving violations in any civilized country – holiday or not. the driver should be ticketed.
