Report: Mediation Between Chabad and Gur in Arad

According to chareidi media reports, mediation efforts are underway in Arad between Chabad and Ger representatives surrounding the recent shabbos violence in the city’s Central Ashkenazi Shul.

According to the reports, the chassidic representatives are meeting with attorney Keinan, who heads the local religious council. The reports quote Ger sources stating that they were contacted to meet with Keinan in the hope of ironing out differences and bringing an end to the ongoing conflict.

YWN-Israel contacted Chabad representatives in Arad to confirm the report. Rabbi Shimon Elharar, a member of the Chabad kehillah in Arad, said Thursday there is an effort to create a “media spin” on the ongoing provocations and violence perpetrated by the Gerrer chassidim in the city’s Central Synagogue.

“From an official perspective, there is no dispute between the chassidim of Chabad and Gur, not in Arad or anywhere else, even within the confines of the Arad Central Ashkenazi Synagogue,” he said.

“As a result of the passing of Rav Lipsker zt”l, his son-in-law, Rav Mendelsohn was appointed in his place by the shul’s committee. The rav is filling the place of his father-in-law and he is following his illustrious path. The shul belongs to all residents of the city, and its purpose is to serve all the Jews living in Arad, whether they be shomer Torah and mitzvos or not.

“However, Gerrer chassidim have for some reason decided that the shul does not belong to everyone, but to them alone. They began interfering with the rabbi’s activities and interrupting the gabbai and davening. These interferences began as mild disruptions but rapidly escalated to serious violence with the goal of gaining control of the shul.

“Regarding reports that Chabad, or the Board of Directors of the Central Synagogue turned to attorney Keinan to arbitrate between the parties are patently untrue. This is simply a ‘media spin’ that lacks any basis in fact. Attorney Keinan is certainly not neutral in any case.

“Attorney Keinan is currently a candidate for mayor in our city, with strong, long-standing ties to the Gerrer community. He is also a close friend of Avraham Kaminer, a Gerrer official who in the past has served as deputy mayor. Kaminer at present is also the head of the Arad Foundation, a quasi-governmental entity that enjoys private status while maintaining strong ties to the municipality and other city entities — for whom the foundation provides major funding through a number of channels.”

  1. This is a shul machlokes not a machlokes between gantz Chabad and Ger. Ger and Chabad have been very close throughout the years dont turn this into something it is not.

  2. It would be wonderful news to see that everyone in this shule can come to agreement and have peace and ahavas yisroael as it was meant to be.

  3. More and more loshon horah.

I don’t expect you to post this comment, but hopefully, one day, some of the comments you have refused to post will filter their way into your head, and you will realise the significance of your actions.

When you tell your friend a juicy story you are sharing it with him and with him alone.

Posting loshon horah on a website is gonna earn the poster compounded gehinnom. Shame.

  4. “YWN contacted Chabad representatives”. YWN doesn’t say anything about contacting Gerrer representatives, after all, who cares what they say. Ger are the aggressors here, aren’t they, objective neutral journalistic reporting YWN? Oh but YWN does mention that Kienan is not neutral. YWN has taken, in the interest of proper journalistc reporting, a minor misunderstanding between two long time friends and neighbors, Ger and Chabad, and turned into a rechilos and lashon hora filled messy situation, requiring much needed public airing by, YWN of course. So that all the anti-Ger bashers can come online into the YWN neutral site and vent their venomous sinaas chinom anger at Ger. Good job YWN of fomenting sinaas chinom within klal yisroel and trying to make a machloikis between friends. Keep up your good work and hashem might even reserve a nice cozy toasty warm spot for you. Maybe near Korach, Doson, and Avirom.

  5. this is just the beginning of war between Gur and Chabad. they both have delusions that they are the main part of Klal Yisroel so whenever they are in close proximity, they can’t possibly co-exist!!!!!

  6. I would again like to point out to YWN that this non-issue which you have escalated to “news” is brining out venomous comments and this is your fault. Looka t #7 who seems to be gloating that Chabad and Ger who have lived very peacefully for 200 years are about to go to war. Chabad had several yeshivos in Poland before WW2 right in the middle of Gerrer “turf” and there were never any issues. Chabad and Ger have coexisted in Arad for over 30 years with no issues. This issue that #7 is so thrilled about is totally YWN manufatured. I reiterate my statement above that the esteemed and honorable editors of YWN will be rewarded for their position is prime distributors of rechilus and loshon hora to klal yisroel by becoming the combustible material used by Satan in his home devolopment. I think mussar seforim call this “tzoia rochtzis”? When will you stop maligning and causing debasing of malchus beis Ger?
