Meeting with Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger, President Shimon Peres warned of the international community permitting Iran to reach nuclear capabilities. He explained that such a reality would result in a nuclear Middle East where disputes would then be settled with nuclear bombs.
Spindelegger expressed his understanding and that of the European community, confirming with the president’s calls for action.
The president referred to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a “dictator and a murderer who hangs people in the streets, shoots at unarmed civilians, calls for the destruction of a nation and travels the world as if he was a legitimate leader”.
Realizing the foreign minister is traveling to Syria from Israel, Mr. Peres urged him to deliver a message to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, they Israel prefers to meet at the negotiating table and wishes to enter into diplomatic negotiations.
