It Always Comes Down to Money – Who Pays for Security Fence?

While the cabinet agreed that a new high-tech security fence will be constructed along the Egyptian border, now that the government wishes to move ahead, the true discussions are taking place, namely, what agency will flip the bill for the new security entity.

The Defense Ministry is not volunteering and ahead of Sunday’s weekly cabinet meeting, ministry officials stated that prior to beginning such a massive project, discussions must be held discussing details, costs and of course a timetable.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak was not present for the meeting to approve the impressive NIS 1.35 billion price tag. It appears the minister is vacationing following his birthday, aides reported. The vote on the fence was pushed off.

While it was indicated the minister does support the move, it was stated that Mr. Barak believes such a project cannot be approved in the absence of an in-depth discussion addressing all the pertinent details.
