MK Shaul Mofaz, who is working to usurp the Kadima leadership from MK Tzipi Livni, is signaling a willingness to accept early elections for the party leadership within a year, backing down from his previous demands for primary elections within 90 days.
Mofaz has realized that pushing for the 90 plan may result in a defeat when the party leadership body votes, but a willingness to accept a maximum of one year will most likely enlist the majority of the party’s governing body.
Another factor that contributed to Mofaz’s decision is the fact that a poll surveying eligible Kadima voters shows him head-to-head with Livni, bringing him to the realization that elections within 90 days may not necessarily be to his advantage.
