Sharon on the other hand made his famous statements in his days of aligning with the right-wing, stating there is already a Palestinian state, Jordan, and therefore the solution lies on the other side of the river. It was the very same Arik Sharon who then announced his disengagement plan at the Herzliya Conference, which has since been implemented, resulting in uprooting Jewish life in Gaza and portions of the N. Shomron.
In his Herzliya Conference address last week, the prime minister sought to distance himself from Sharon, reminding the audience just how Sharon spoke of disengagement from the very same platform, while his focus is on engagement, unity.
Ideological colleague and a former ambassador to Washington, as well as a former defense and foreign minister, Dr. Moshe Arens told Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) host Razi Barkai that the prime minister is remaining loyal to the right-wing ideals, confident he will continue to protect and preserve national interests.
