Lower Cellular Phone Rates from Israel Abroad

The Ministry of Communications announced on Monday that it is lowering the price of international calls made from cellular telephones in Israel. The new rate system, which will begin in six months, will bring an end to the double billing, compelling callers to pay the cell provider in Israel and the overseas carrier. Now, the caller will no longer have to pay the per-minute rate to both, the daily HaMevaser reports.

One using a cellular telephone to make an international call today is charged twice for each minute, paying for a cellular phone call at the regular local rate, as well as paying for the international call.

Under the new arrangement, callers will pay for the international call and that carrier will make payment the local cellular provider. This should lower the per-minute calling charge for international calls made from a cellular telephone, officials explain.
