Attorney David Shimroni told Kol Chai Radio that enough is enough, and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Mrs. Sara Netanyahu are not going to continue exhibiting restraint in the face of newspaper reports that lack basic factual elements, slanderous articles, and as such, he stated each incident will be addressed, “in the correct time and place”, one at a time.
Shimroni’s statements come amid reports that the Netanyahus have filed a NIS 1 million libel suit against the daily Ma’ariv. Shimroni pointed out that Ma’ariv obviously believed the story was a matter of national importance, presenting it with one of the sub headlines, placing it on page 3, and also including it in a special section report. The newspaper reported that Sara Netanyahu fired an elderly gardener unjustifiably, adding the man is a bereaved parent, a claim that Shimroni explains is simply not true – in fact since the gardener is still employed. In addition to the demand for NIS 1 million in damages, the Netanyahus are also demanding a public apology from the newspaper.
A complaint has also been filed against the nation’s journalist council as well and a suit is also being filed against the Jerusalem Kol Ha’ir weekly. Shimroni added the matter of the housekeeper Lillian Peretz will be addressed in a labor court.
YWN-Israel recently reported that the prime minister made an appeal to the media, calling to “direct the fire at me, not at Sara and the children”, seeking to remove his family from the media blows, unfortunately, without success. He has now decided to enlist the services of his attorney, moving to the offensive, determined to rebuff damaging reports that are not at all connected to his position of prime minister, but related to the personal life of the Netanyahu family.
