Twenty-year-old Eliran Elgali was released by authorities despite being labeled the ‘chief suspect’ in the ongoing investigation into an arson attack against a mosque in the PA village of Yusuf, in the Shechem district.
While reportedly the primary suspect last week, he now appears to be facing less serious charges, possibly not taking measures to prevent a crime.
Following a series of raids in Yishuv Yitzhar last week, authorities working with agents of the Shin Bet carried out brutal arrests, taking a number high-schoolers into custody along with a few suspects in their 20s, affiliated with the Ohd Yosef Chai Yeshiva located in the yishuv.
Earlier in the investigation, a son of the late Rav Binyamin Ze’ev Kahane HY”D was also arrested, but released after a few hours as security officials continue attempts to gather evidence to file criminal indictments.
Elgali has been banned from entering Yehuda and Shomron for 60 days as part of the terms of his release, reportedly to prevent him from interfering in the ongoing investigation.
