An officer serving in the Israel Prison Authority is in custody, alleged to have smuggled cellular telephones to “security prisoners”/ terrorists in Israelis prisons.
Officer Monir Halabi, 38, from Yarcha, serves as a prison section supervisor with investigators explaining they received a tip that the accused accepted bribes to smuggle phones into the imprisoned terrorists. The information obtained by prison officials was passed to the internal affairs branch of Israel Police, and a clandestine investigation substantiated the information.
Police officials quoted anonymously in the daily Yisrael HaYom state the charges are very serious, explaining the officer compromised state security by his alleged actions.
The suspect’s remand was extended by the Petach Tikvah Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
