American Arab Journalist was Deported from Israel

American journalist Jared Malsin was deported from Israel after losing an appeal to halt the Ministry of the Interior move. Prior to being ousted from the country, he was detained in a holding cell at Ben-Gurion International Airport, the PA Maan agency reports. Editor Nasser Lahham lashed out against Israel stating the Israelis simply do not care what is written in the Arabic and Hebrew press, only the English press. Malsin was a member of the English press. Lahham reports that he informed American consular officials, who visited Malsin in detention.

According to Interior Ministry officials, the decision to deport Malsin had nothing to do with his affiliation, but the result of his refusal to reply to security questions from inspectors after his return from Prague. He was held at the airport as is done in such cases pending the outcome of a security hearing. The ministry spokesperson indicated he decided to leave and he was not ousted.

  1. He was not deported. This was the initial news in the media a couple of days ago – but after half a day, the media adjusted themselves and said he had chosen on his own volition to leave the country.

This is what Haaretz, Ynetnews and Arutz Sheva said.

He was not deported. He just gave up.

  2. Actually, he was “coerced into creating a legal document to withdraw his case without an attorney present” and offered a misleading explanation to what he was signing.

He was deported. He didn’t give up.
