Attorney Chaim Stenger, representing Ichud (United Hatzolah- UH) has sent a letter to MDA Director-General Eli Bin warning if the organization does not retract its newly-implemented policy, he will have to take the matter to the courts.
Bin has implemented a new policy, compelling volunteers to sign a statement that they will not work or volunteer in any other organizations providing emergency medical care without prior consent from MDA, a move that precludes volunteering for UH.
Stenger explains that volunteering for UH in no way interferes with MDA operations, and if volunteers opt to fill their free time working for another worthwhile organization, this is not the business of MDA. Stenger explains the new directive violates the state’s MDA law and the nation’s laws against discrimination.
MDA responded to the report, explaining it is acting upon advice of MDA counsel seeking to protect the interests of the organization.
