The plenum session was interrupted on Wednesday when MK (Shas) Nissim Ze’ev pushed ahead his bill to exempt shuls around Eretz Yisrael from paying arnona property tax. He mentioned shuls can also be used as talmidei torah or a beis medresh, resulting in an explosion from Kadima, with opposition lawmakers attacking the coalition and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, questioning how he can permit this to take place, a policy of catering to the chareidim.
The vote passed with a significant majority, 64-24, leaving Kadima opposition members quite angry.
