Infant Abducted from Jerusalem Home – Found Hours Later

A 6-month-old infant was abducted from his Jerusalem home, discovered a number of hours later and returned to the waiting arms of his mother.

According to a Kikar report, the infant was discovered missing from his parents Meah Shearim home last week, found at a neighborhood woman’s home hours later, hours that seemed like an eternity. Yediot Achronot reported that the parents were taking part in sheva brachos, and the infant was in a carriage near the adults. When someone came to check on the infant, it was discovered that he was gone.

Eventually, the mother began asking passersby if they saw a woman or anyone with an infant in their arms, perhaps appearing suspicious. One woman described a female fitting the description of “suspicious”, observed with an infant wrapped in her arms, moving somewhat quickly, appearing agitated. She was able to direct the mother to the woman’s address, and police arrived with the concerned mom, Baruch Hashem finding the child. The woman told police she found the child “abandoned on the street” and decided “to raise him”.

The woman was taken into custody and is undergoing psychiatric evaluation.

  1. “the infant was in a carriage near the adults” but not in the sight of the adults. NEVER leave a child unattended means that you should never lose sight of him!!

  2. Amama:
Seems from the story that the infant and parents were inside their home and not outdoors.
When at home, I do not sit near my child and stare at her all day. I move about and do my things.
Sounds like this infant was totally safe within the parents’ view. Nothing wrong.
Besides if there’s more to the story than what was written here.

  3. 1 & 2, really? Do you hire a baby sitter every time you go to the bathroom? You sound as smart as the health department, whose laws are similar. Who makes sure your kids are breathing the whole night? Instead of typing now, you could have been staring at your kids!

  4. The smart person is he who learns from someone else. This did not sound at all like it was the parent’s fault. All those mothers that leave their babies unattended in front of stores in boro park should have their heads examined. It is a very dangerous and stupid thing to do. If you can’t go into the store with your baby, then don’t shop there. End of story.

  5. It seems that the headline “Abducted from Jerusalem Home” is misleading. The baby was not pulled out of his crib in his locked house and someone broke in. It seems that a sheva brochos was taking place, and the door was unlocked with people walking in and out UNSUPERVISED. If it is true, as the Yediot Achronot reported, “that the parents were taking part in sheva brachos, and the infant was in a carriage near the adults,” then this baby was also UNSUPERVISED. This is not a case of a locked home and the mother went to the bathroom!! “When someone came to check on the infant, it was discovered that he was gone.” Whether this is the case here or not, I maintain my position that one should NEVER LEAVE A CHILD UNATTENDED. That means that you should never lose sight of him for a time long enough that he can get hurt!! Dont go to the bathroom and leave a toddler walking around unsupervised. put him in the high chair, crib, or take him with you.

  6. amama,
i’m a mama too. and an extremely overprotective one. for safety purposes i feel it necessary to point out that although you may feel that leaving your toddler in a high chair or crib is safer than unsupervised, i beg to differ on your parenting skills or perhaps your children are of milder temperements. if my toddler- an easygoing happy child were left in a high chair and knew i wasnt arount- he’d throw such a fit in there i deem it dangerous! oh, and its totally inapropriate taking your 2 yr old with u.
