Not everyone is pleased, but nevertheless, Pope Benedict XVI will on Sunday visit Rome’s Central Synagogue. He will be greeted by leaders of the local Jewish community as well as representatives of Jewish communities from around the world. Also attending is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development Silvan Shalom.
Rabbi Giuseppe Laras, head of the Italian Rabbinic Assembly, announced he will boycott the visit, as will others, protesting against the pope’s decision, the Church’s ruling regarding the beatification of Pius XII, who is infamous for his inaction towards saving Jews during the Holocaust.
They feel granting sainthood to the anti-Semitic pope is yet another insult to the memory of the victims of Nazi Germany as well as an affront to the Jewish People.

Yes, there’s a precedent for this. In earlier times, some priests would forcefully enter Shuls and preach the merits of christianity. If this shul is old enough, then it would be ironic from its point of view.
I hope he enjoys his visit it should be very nice.
Rachmana Litzlan!!!
#1, He didn’t force his way in anywhere, he was invited. And he didn’t preach anything.
#2, By all reports he did enjoy it. He’s an ohev yisroel.
#3, Why? Yes, he is the Avi Avos Hatum’ah, but he’s not a bad person, and Rome is his local city, so it’s nice that he honoured the shul with a visit.
Correct me if I am wrong but didn’t this guy criticize Israel more then once for defending themselves against the jihadists who he has claimed are “oppressed” by Israel?

what ohev yisrael wishes to deify the pope that did nothing to stop the holocaust?
what ohev yisrael goes out of his way to criticize israel defending itself against terrorists?
what ohev yisrael gladly was a part of the hitler youth?
with lovers like that, who needs enemies?
may his reign be short
#6, you are either woefully ignorant or have a hidden agenda.
1. It is indisputable that Pius saved many Jews. But his first responsibility was to the safety of Catholics under Nazi rule. What right do you have to expect that he should have endangered them for our sakes? What do you think he could have done anyway?
2. He didn’t go out of his way to do anything. If you think the Pope sets Vatican foreign policy, you are very naive.
3. All that means is that he was a German citizen of a certain age; EVERY German of his age was a member of HJ. How does it tell you anything about his character? What do you imagine he could have done to avoid being registered? As it is, he never wore the uniform or attended a meeting; but he had no choice about being a member.
