It was far from a routine motzei shabbos in the Beis Yisrael area of the capital this week, as shots rang out from two assailants in chareidi garb riding a motorcycle. Immediately after firing at his intended victim on Chaim Ozer Street, he fled the scene. The victim, apparently hit by the gunfire, entered a nearby vehicle and drove off.
By the time police arrived, the shooter and victim were gone. The area was closed down and the search for the two began. Police notified emergency rooms and it appears their investigation led to a male who was in an emergency room with a knife wound to his back. That same man left the emergency room, got on his motorcycle, and headed out on his mission, apparently to fire at the man who stabbed him. Reports indicate two men were on the motorcycle at the time of the shooting.
Police instructed Hatzolah officials to immediately report anyone seeking care for a knife wound to the back or a gunshot wound. At the time of this report it appears the two remain at large in what police believe is a criminal incident, perhaps underworld related, and not a terrorist shooting.
