US Ambassador to Washington Dr. Michael Oren is quoted as rejecting calls to complete negotiations with the PA (Palestinian Authority) in two years, stating deadlines imposed on diplomatic talks in the past have proven to be a mistake.
Oren spoke with the Jerusalem Post, which states he opposes the move, explaining Israel and the PA (Palestinian Authority) must sit down at the negotiating table and address the serious issues, but a deadline cannot be set on such talks.
Mitchell, America’s special Mideast envoy is due to arrive next week. Prior to leaving Washington, an overly-optimistic Mitchell announced the two sides must return to the negotiating table and hammer out an agreement on the core issues within two years. Mitchell also stated that he believes in addition, simultaneous peace negotiations can take place between Israel and Syria.
