1:11PM IL: [UPDATE BELOW] A terror alert earlier this afternoon brought a large force of police and specialized units to the Beersheva Central Bus Station. In addition, in line with terror alert protocol, checkpoints were set up at entrances and exits to the city while spot-checks were carried at the discretion of security officials.
Three suspects carrying large bags were taken into custody at the central bus station and the high alert was lowered. The three are being interrogated by the ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) at this time according to Israel Radio reports, and a few moments ago Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was updated during the weekly cabinet meeting. Information has not yet been released to the media regarding the suspects in custody. It is still unknown if the three were indeed terrorists carrying explosives on their way to carrying out an attack.
It appears the Shin Bet and other agencies were acting on a specific credible terror warning.
Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
