With 2009 winding down, various government agencies release statistics, and the Shin Bet reports that the outgoing Gregorian year was the quietest from a security/terror point of view in the past decade. 15 Israelis were killed in “security incidents” and 234 wounded the past year, including 9 fatalities from Operation Cast Lead. This represents a sharp drop from the previous year, recording 36 deaths and 678 wounded in 2008.
Cast Lead did indeed result in a sharp reduction in the number of rocket attacks into southern Israel. Since the counter-terrorism offensive ended in January 2009, 160 rockets were fired as compared to 406 in January 2008 and 2,048 throughout the entire year (2008).
Since the military offensive reports ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) Director Yuval Diskin, Hamas in Gaza has focused on rebuilding its terrorist infrastructure, as well as significantly expanding its smuggling tunnel network. YWN-Israel recently reported there are no less than 1,200 tunnels operating in the area of the Rafiach/Egypt border.
Diskin, a senior member of the intelligence community adds that dozens of planned and attempted terror attacks along the Gaza border and against southern area border communities were foiled. Many attacks involved terrorists leaving Gaza and heading into Egypt and then making their way to the Negev area.

Oy!, when I think of those horror stories that was so regular happening to our brothers in Israel, I almost forgot! I really didn’t realize how quiet it is in Israel lately, B”H! Let’s not forgat to thank hashem, some people tend to think ‘wow’ the shabak is doing such a good job!, but we all know that everything is from hashem,
And let’s pray for another good year.
People should be aware of the fact that the decline in the number of terror attacks, is NOT because of the dumb, multi-zillion dollar wall they are building, or because of any decrease on the part of the yishmaelim in wanting to kill us.
IT IS BECAUSE of the the nightly IDF raids into arab villages in the Shomron, which, with HaSh-m’s help, and incredibly good intelligence info, yield terrorist arrests pretty much every single night.
