Shas officials explain that they are indeed in favor of funding to assist the residents of Sderot and Gaza periphery communities, but the funds must come from elsewhere, not from Shas ministries as is planned by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu at present.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will present ministers with his plan to allocate about NIS 340 million in aid for the southern border residents, monies that will be taken from the Housing Ministry and Interior Ministry, both under the control of Shas ministers.

Shas officials’ stress they are not opposed to aiding southern residents, but they feel the necessary funds can be found elsewhere.
