Environmental Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan has plans, plans to plunge Israel into the 21st Century regarding environmental awareness and the need to protect and preserve the nation’s natural resources. The minister was asked by Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) just how the nation plans to make good on a promise made at an environmental conference by President Shimon Peres to reduce emissions of hothouse gases by 20% in the coming decade.
The minister explained that the president was armed with ministry data, and he obviously did not make a promise that cannot be adhered to. Erdan explained that about 10% of unwanted emissions today are generated from household trash, simply something that most Israelis are unaware of. The ministry plans to distribute two disposal receptacles to every household, to begin educating and implementing recycling by sorting trash as is done in other countries.
