IDF Homefront Command officials are indicating that nationwide gas mask distribution is expected to get into full swing in February 2010. Unlike the distribution in the past, the IDF will not distribute the masks directly, but via an agent, Israel Postal Authority.
Citizens will be able to come to any postal branch to receive the masks, without charge, or one may also arrange for a postal service messenger to bring it to the door, for a nominal fee of NIS 25 for an entire family. The messenger will be trained to measure each member of the family, permitting him to distribute the appropriate masks.
Children under 8 will receive new state-of-the-art masks which Homefront Command officials explain are being distributed for the first time. The new child’s mask works on positive pressure, and is capable of operating for 60 consecutive hours before having to replace batteries.
