Chanan Sand, the young choson who planned to marry Nava Appelbaum HY”D, who was murdered along with her father Rabbi Dr. David Appelbaum HY”D in a suicide bombing attack in the Hillel Café in Jerusalem’s German Colony, is engaged, six years after that murderous attack which occurred on Sept. 9, 2003. He is engaged to Penina Assis of Efrat.
Five other people were murdered in the attack that left over 50 wounded. Rabbi Appelbaum was seated with his daughter, having a cup of coffee the night before her chupah, when the suicide bomber detonated the deadly blast. The young Kallah was among the dead.
After the horrific attack, Chanan’s father, Tzvi Sand, a noted bal chessed, had her wedding dress made into the paroches that today adorns Kever Rachel.
