A BBC Arabic report regarding Syria’s response to the Knesset passing the Continuity Bill states Israel cannot hold a referendum on land it does not own. The bill compels a national referendum in the event the Government of Israel decides to relinquish control of areas under Israeli sovereignty, such as eastern Yerushalayim and the Golan Heights.
The BBC report quoting “Syrian sources” stated that the vote for the bill was another indication of the “extremist tendencies” of the Israeli lawmakers.
