It appears Jerusalem will have two additional deputy mayors, chareidim, representing the Shas and Yahadut HaTorah parties. This will bring the number of deputy mayors to an impressive eight.

Shas MK David Azoulai announced he also plans to work to increase the budget to permit additional mayors in municipalities with over 100,000 residents. If passed into law, it will be costly for in addition to a deputy’s salary, other costs include an office, aide, spokesperson and secretary.

Treasury officials object, stating the move is simply too expensive.
