Joining the growing list of prominent Israeli secularists commenting on statements from Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman, who stated it would be beneficial to rule the nation in accordance to halacha, ruling out any such move.
Rubinstein, a retired MK and minister and a recipient of the prestigious Israel Prize, is viewed as a senior member of the nation’s legal community. He stated that the implementation of Torah Law would be a “disaster” and it would cut off Israel from most of the Jewish People as well as the majority of residents.
He lamented the fact that event today, the secularists are under the oppression of the rabbis regarding weddings and conversions, warning the spread of such influence could have disastrous results.
