Minister of Religious Affairs (Shas) Yaakov Margi was interviewed by Kol Chai Radio on Wednesday night, speaking of the troubling situation pertaining to the repeated vandalism attacks in the beis chaim of Har HaZeisim, stating he is certain the Arabs are doing this to “challenge Israel’s sovereignty over eastern Yerushalayim”.
“I am aware these are kevarim of gedolei yisrael and I am certain they are doing this intentionally to send a message to defy Israel’s sovereignty over the area” he stressed numerous times.
The interview followed the latest attack, against the Tzion of the Lelover Rebbe ZT”L, which followed a number of recent attacks in which kevarim were damaged during recent weeks and month.
Margi explained he has been pressing Minister of Public Security Aharonovitch as well as the Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s bureau chief to take immediate action, calling the situation totally unacceptable, adding that while the police patrols in the area are visible, the repeated attacks indicate police need to do more and different measures must be taken as well.
Margi blamed “bureaucratic problems” for the delayed action, adding NIS millions are being wasted and action must be forthcoming from a number of relevant government agencies. He vows to continue unrelenting efforts, promising to bring the matter to the agenda of the weekly cabinet meeting if necessary.
In a response to a query to the minister in Knesset, Minister of Public Security Aharonovitch explained he is aware of complaints, not specific cases, and aware there is an increased police presence.

The police have to be kicked out of their cars. Israeli police officers ONLY sit and drive in their cars. You will NEVER see police officers just walking around to patrol somewhere, as you would see in any other country/city like everywhere in Europe.
The only police officers who don’t sit and drive in cars, are the ones who are directing traffic at intersections where the lights are broken or road construction sites or permanent security such as at the shuk (though those Ethopian girls don’t really scare any terrorist away).
The day has to come when we will see police officers walking around any part of the city and actually doing something instead of just driving around with their big airconditioned cars.
