Israel – Two members of the chareidi community are in police custody, suspected of setting the vehicle of a Beit Shean missionary ablaze. The attack took place on Tuesday night with the victim’s car parked close to the city’s police station.
The victim, Eliav Levine, is a known member of the Messianic community, a resident of Beit Shean for over four years. There is a sizable community of residents of the FSU, many being non-Jews and some identifying with the Messianic community. People seeking to assist Levine report he and his family are constant targets of abuse and attacks from members of the Orthodox community, calling on police to act.
The Jerusalem Post quotes Rav Shalom Lifshitz of Yad L’Achim calling the arson attack “stupid” with the rav explaining this is not the organization’s way, disapproving of acts of violence.
