MK (Yahadut HaTorah) Uri Maklev is moving with a bill that would compel the government to make compensatory payment to couples who took mortgages in areas now impacted by the building freeze, a move that in many cases will result in an insurmountable fiscal strain on the couples.
Maklev explained that couples took mortgages to buy a home, and they must also juggle payment rent until the apartment is ready. The 10-month building delay results in a significant hardship, one that the couples could not have anticipated, a current reality that is strictly the result of a government decision. Therefore, the government must compensate the people impacted by the freeze.
