A 15-year-old boy found himself in police custody on Monday after he was playing with his new laser device. The boy was standing atop a fixture in a Bat Yam park pointing his laser pen at a police chopper.

The chopper pilot radioed his base, explaining he was at risk due to the blinding laser from below. Police dispatched a scooter patrol, and officer Ehmuel Ilani located the youth, taking him in custody.

The child told police that he was unaware his laser was causing any difficulties for the helicopter pilot, explaining he was “playing around” and never intended to harm anyone. Police eventually released the child into his parent’s custody.
