It would appear that the White House prefers to ignore facts on the ground concerning Israel, opting to continue referring to portions of Jerusalem as “settlements”, in this most recent case, Gilo, a southern area of the capital which is home to over 30,000 residents.
As US President Barak Obama becomes increasingly brazen in his blatant interference in internal Israeli affairs, seeking to dictate construction policy in the nation’s capital, even President Shimon Peres felt compelled to respond, seeking to diplomatically send the White House a clear message, “Gilo is part of Israel”.
Mr. Peres stated “there is no doubt that Gilo is under Israeli sovereignty” and it is impossible to change the facts that exist. The president added that anyone seeking to change the current reality would require a Knesset majority to do so, adding “for years, there has been a dispute between Israel and the United States regarding the status of Jerusalem”.
“Disputes are not a new phenomenon, but despite it all, Israel continues to conduct negotiations towards advancing peace between Israel and the Palestinians”.

We should tell the president that he should relocate the White House into the United States. After all, it is in the District of Colombia, and that is part of South America. Since that district is not a state of the U.S., we should not recognize it as a part of our cuntry.
