Tznius Compels Stress Test with a Shirt

litzman1.jpgHealth Ministry officials are modifying a directive for administering a stress test, to permit the patient to wear an undershirt or similar garment. Signs must now be posted informing patients they are permitted to wear and undergarment or the like if their modesty standard dictates such a move. If one is having a cardiac echogram or EKG, a brassiere must be removed but an undershirt or similar garment may be worn.

Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman has compelled the modification in protocol after receiving complaints from chareidi women, quickly adding there have been complaints from others as well, in the interest in preserving the dignity of the patient.

  1. I’m having some trouble understanding this.

I agree that, if at all possible, a female tech should administer the test on a female patient. However, assuming that it is a female tech and the environment is secure (i.e. a man won’t walk in suddenly), then what’s the issue here?
