President Shimon Peres, who is on an official state visit in Brazil, canceled a speaking appearance before some 2,000 members of the local Jewish community.

The president was instructed by Shin Bet officials to return to the Sao Paulo Hotel where he is staying after learning the security check of guests participating in the event was not conducted as per the agency’s specifications. Hence, security supervisors determined the president’s appearance at the event would carry too significant a security risk, prompting the cancelation of his appearance.
