In response to an outcry over the opening of a store in Maale Adumim, near a shul, the store owner announced he would stop selling pork products, accepting to only sell kosher products in the store in the future.
The store opened on Tuesday (10 Nov.), in a central shopping center, in proximity to a dati leumi shul and other public facilities. Many community residents were pained upon realizing the store was selling ‘chazir’ in their community.
Not long after opening, about 200 community residents gathered in a protest, decrying the presence of the treif in their community. Deputy Mayor Yaakov Betzalel told Kol Chareidi that the mayor promised to act to the fullest extent permitted under the law.
More touching perhaps was the deputy mayor’s report that following the protest, the store owner approached with tears in his eyes, promising to only sell kosher in his store. The deputy mayor reports that he assisted him in connecting with kosher suppliers, and it appears the condition has been corrected Baruch Hashem.
Some residents however are less trusting, explaining they do not believe that in a “matter of minutes” the owner did tshuva and decides to change his merchandise. They plan to carefully monitor the new store.

The best thing they can do to assure he stays kosher is to shop there. When he sees he is getting support from the frum community he’ll realize he made the right decision.
